Thirteen Things From My Week By Frances
1.) Rented and watched a British comedy called Death at a Funeral. Highly recommended. I’m also a big fan of Brit cons on TV. Favorites include Absolutely Fabulous, Chef, Keeping Up Appearances, The Vicar of Dilby, The Thin Blue Line, Are You Being Served? & Blackadder.
2.) Received a book I won in a raffle over at J. Kaye’s Book Blog. Now there’s a gal who can write a review.
3.) Finally sorted the giant bag of socks that’s been sitting by my dresser for weeks. A small accomplishment for some but huge for me.
4.) Decided that I need some online support to lose weight by summer. Just not getting it done on my own. Put the word out to my blog buddies. If you have any suggestions let me know in comments please.
5.) Discovered skinny decaf lattes at Starbucks. They’re great to sip on while I writing in a notebook.
6.) Finally started using my Blackjack to moblog. I’ve owned the thing for almost three months. It’s just that I can’t do anything before I am ready. I’m the same way with clothes. A new outfit can hang in my closet 6 months before it’s worn.
7.) Got together with dear HH. She’s the mother of a friend from childhood. We had dinner and talked. She understands everything. I never really knew my own mom; it would have been great to have one just like her.
8.) Sending an email to a friend I haven’t spoken to in 8 years. We didn’t have a falling out - just got busy.
9.) Rented and watched an excellent Independent film called ESL - English as a Second Language. Just how far will you go to live the American Dream?
10.) Set aside at least an hour every morning this week to write before I started my day.
11.) Have not been able to use my new camera. Evidentally I am in mourning for the old one.
12.) Tried out a couple of new memes.
13.) Read up on this new federal tax rebate thing - this may mean that we actually won’t owe anything this year. That is huge!
Everyone have a fabulous week.

Thirteen Things I’ve Done Recently By Frances
1.) Talked to my friend Heart on the telephone after almost a year. He had been traveling all about the planet sans cell phone for the whole time. Can you imagine?
2.) Rented and watched an amazing movie - Ten Questions For The Dalai Lama. I could not recommend it more.
3.) NaBloPoMo has gone monthly, and I decided to do it again in March. The theme (totaly optional) is Lists. Let’s hope I can come up with a unique list daily.
4.) My beloved Canon 3.2 camera stopped operating.
5.) I got a new camera - Canon 8.0.
6.) Destroyed several journals. Those were that I used as my b***h and moan files. As I tear up the pages into tiny pieces I caste my cares away.
7.) Visited the new Ripley’s Believe it or Not in Times Square. Loads of fun. Believe it or not I did not have my camera with me. A friend and I went on the spur of the moment. I did have my new Flip camcorder in my pocket.
8.) Learned that I move my hands and feet too quickly when I use my Flip. All my videos looked like those old time films where everything goes really fast.
9.) Got 5 fabulous polos and tees at Burlington for less than 40 bucks. They were having a spring thing.
10.) Changed all the alarms and alert tones on my cell phones. They were all irritating me.
11.) I am now more irritated than ever with the tones. Will have to try a new set.
12.) Found an incredibly cheap out of the way Internet cafe for when I want to work away from home. My laptop is too heavy to carry around.
13. Decided to never ever ever reveal location and price of said Internet cafe. Don’t want the world there crowding it up and rasing the rates

Thirteen Things I Did Recently by Frances
1. Went to Atlantic City.
More pics here & here
2. Signed up for blog365
3. Rang in the New Year by myself. Hubby works nights, so I am used to it.
4. Went to see National Treasure 2. Nick Cage is sooooo cute.
5. Worked on my new blog. It’s all about New York. The web address will posted on all my blogs as soon as it is ready.
6. Decided to go for a new look, so I’m letting my hair grow out a bit and doing a coppery demi-tint.
7. Got really bad service and food in a new local restaurant, and decided to do something about it. The manager was evasive, so I began calling the managers of all the other locations. One put me through to one of the partners who gave me the personal cell phone number of the owner. What can I tell you - I get that way sometimes.
8. Spent New Years Day photostrolling.
9. Got myself a new journal for the New Year, but haven’t had a chance to write in it. It’s been really busy for me the last two days.
10. Decided to give up red meat meat and poultry for the New Year. Have been off caffeine for a few months, and chocolate for a month, it’s making a big difference in how I feel physically.
11. Bought myself a couple of really cute bags. This doesn’t mean I’m using them though; my trusted blue bag is still hanging from my shoulder.
12. Got a big bag of clothes together for the Salvation Army.
13. Have a wonderous New Year!

Thirteen Random Things From My Week by Frances
1. I won a NaBloPoMo prize. <insert happy dance>
2. Joseph and Jennifer, the founders of Inked-In , were in New York, and we met up for lunch.
Inked-In is a great group for anyone into the arts.
3. We met at a lovely little restaurant/wine bar in Little Italy.

4. My meme blog and creative writing blogs re-opened after a month long break.
5. Rented Broken English. It’s a Parker Posy film - I love Parker Posy. A total chick flick.
6. Rented Live Free or Die Hard for hubby. Total non-stop action flick. He loved it.
7. It snowed Sunday, and I took a photostroll after lunch. I don’t like the mess snow makes, but it can be nice to photograph.

8. My daughter will be visiting New York this Friday & Saturday, so I got some things together for her. While going through the closet I found the purse and scarf she crocheted when she was very young. It’s not a talent she got from me. Both my grandmother and mother were great with the needles. I’m also giving her some china I bought at an auction back in ‘92.
9. I decided to start a ficitonal blog starring my NaNoWriMo character. She’s one wicked girl.
10. Blogger’s made some chaanges to their commenting sytem that really ticked me off!

Thirteen Random Things From My Week by Frances
Found a few interesting websites:
1.) 25 Worlds Weirdest Animals -The Blobfish & Axolotl really freaked me out.
2.) Freeware Files.com - lots of really useful freeware
3.) Nonags - more free goodies
4.) Pandora - create a free radio station that only plays music by your favorite artists.
I like free stuff!
Began organizing my photos, and found some that never got posted. Here’s a couple:
7.) Had a creative date with myself yesterday and worked on two projects. One is a drawing and the other a love poem. I haven’t really drawn since I was a kid. The love poem is not the type of writing I usually do, but I figure why not step out of the comfort zone.
8.) Saturday I watched a movie called Mega Snake on the Sci-Fi channel. One of my blog buddies had a part in it. She got eaten by the snake!
9.) A salesman kept calling me on my cell phone, and it was driving me crazy. Yesterday I answered the phone, heard what I thought was his voice, and blasted him. After I ended the call he called right back. Turns out he was from a mortgage company, an acquaintance of mine had left my number as a contact. I was mortified, he just laughed.
10.) Discovered that when you try to break an old CD in half it can shatter into a million pieces, that take forever to clean up.
11.) Did a freewriting session left handed. Writing with your non-dominant hand can reveal a lot. This is a great book on the subject.
12.) Organized two dresser drawers - a huge accomplishment for me
13.) Decided to have another creative date with myself today. Fine tuning the first draft of my poem, and working on my drawing are the top items on my list.

Tom’s Diner
by Frances
1.) Every once in while I just have to go have dinner by myself at Tom’s Diner. It’s a classic Greek owned New York coffee shop/diner on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.
2.) I’ve been going there since I was about 16, so that’s 30 years - wow.
3.) I always sit at the counter. Right in front of the TV set that sits on the dessert showcase. The TV’s old-fashioned attenae is bigger than the actual set - guess Tom won’t spring for a cable box.
4.) The place is always filled with students talking passionately about their studies, and what happened at the last dorm party.
5.) Fact: Suzie Vega wrote a song about Tom’s Diner.
6.) Fact: Tom’s Diner appeared on Seinfield. You’ll see lots of Seinfeld cast pictures on the walls, including a huge framed one of Kramer.
7.) You can have a complete roast chicken dinner at Tom’s for under ten bucks. That includes soup, salad, veggies, potato and dressing. And the chicken, of course.
8.) If you’re lucky you get to watch the old guy at the register yell at one of the customers.
9.) Tip: Don’t ask the old guy at the register for change for the bus, because he has no extra change. And he’ll pull the register drawer out right in front of you to prove it.
11.) Amazing fact: If you ask the old guy at the register for change to tip the waiter, change will suddenly appear in the cash register drawer.
12.) Tom is very sentimental, and he always has some local artist’s drawings on the walls.
13.) The Diner is located in a great section of Manhattan, so you can have a nice time walking off your complete roast chicken dinner.

Thirteen Wishes by Frances
1.) I wish I could see my father one more time. I would say “Daddy I used to think you were crazy. Now I see myself becoming more and more like you every day. You were right about everything.”
2.) I wish I could see my grandmother one more time. Whenever something funny happens, I imagine me telling her all about it over one of our snacks at the dining room table.
3.) I wish I could see my brother one time. I’d love him to know that his devoted circle of friends have held a memorial for him every year since his left this plane of existence in 1990. And how much we all miss him.
4.) I wish I knew how to fly a helicopter. I would love to fly myself to the top of Bally’s in Atlantic City.
5.) I wish I wasn’t so afraid of heights; it would probably help with wish #4!
6.) I wish every parent would tell their children that they love them every single day.
7.) I wish that all colleges in this country were free.
8.) I wish that there were free safe daycare available to all parents.
9.) I wish that it were summer all the time in New York. Getting older I guess - just can’t stand the cold.
10.) I wish that I could be a Birthday Fairy. Every day I would be assigned a different person who was supposed to be alone on their birthday. We would meet by chance, and I would happen to find out it was their birthday, and then we would celebrate it in some fantastic way.
11.) A little shameless self promotion coming up. I wish that a lot of wonderful women bloggers will join my new group over at Yahoo.
12.) I wish I hadn’t said oh about a thousand or two dumb things over the years. My temper has improved substantially over the years, but it’s still not where I want it.
13.) I wish that I could make every kid love reading. I’m across the street from one of those stores that sells those video games, and sometimes the kids look like they’re mesmerized or something.
And One More Wish - May You All Have a Simply Fabulous Thursday

Get the Thursday Thirteen code here!
The purpose of the meme is to get to know everyone who participates a little bit better every Thursday. Visiting fellow Thirteeners is encouraged! If you participate, leave the link to your Thirteen in others comments. It’s easy, and fun! Be sure to update your Thirteen with links that are left for you, as well! I will link to everyone who participates and leaves a link to their 13 things. Trackbacks, pings, comment links accepted!
