Every person you have ever slept with is invited to a banquet where you are the guest of honor. No one will be in attendance except you, the collection of your former lovers, and the catering service. After the meal, you are asked to give a fifteen-minute speech to the assembly.
What do you talk about?

The Power of Forgiveness

What’s your favorite thing to do on a rainy day?

Go outside - I like to meet the elements head-on. The cool thing about rainy days is that many people stay in, so movies and restaurants are less crowded.

Are you a window person or an aisle person? Why?

Aisle - I like to be able to get up whenever I like.

Thirteen Weird & Wonderful Words

From the book Weird and Wonderful Words edited by Erin McKean

NIHILARIAN - a person who works with things of no importance (whether by choice or not is unclear).

AQUAMANILE - a bowl or jug made in the form of an animal or bird.

CALAMISTRATE - a rare verb meaning to “curl the hair.” This word comes from the Latin word for “curling-iron.”

GONGOOZLER - a person who stares at activity on a canal. This highly specific word has been broadened to mean any kind of idler or rubbernecker.

HONEYFUGGLE - to swindle, cheat. This word is an American slang, and apparently from honey plus fugle, meaning to ‘cheat, trick.’

KENSPECKLE - a Scittish word meaning ‘conspicuous, easily recognizable.’ The origin is not precisely known but it may be related to a Swedish word meaning ‘quick at recognizing people or things.’

MOURNIVAL - a set of four kings, queens, jacks or aces in one hand, or any set of four things or people. This comes from a Fench word whose literal meaning is a ’slap in the face.’

RASSASY - to satisfy a hungry person. This person is related to satiate, and they come from the same Latin Root meaning ‘enough.’

SQUINTIFEGO - a person who squints very much.

STELK - a dish made of onions and mashed potatoes, with a large lump (often an entire pound) of butter or lard in the middle of it. It is an Irish dish and is also called champ.

VOISINAGE - an obselete word meaning ‘neighborhood,’ related to vicintiy. It can also mean ‘the fact of being near,’ usually applied only to places, but ready for a figurative meaning such as ‘He was overcome by the voisinage of his beloved.’

PLANETICOSE - an adjective meaning ‘liking to wander.’ PLANET comes from a Greek word meaning ‘wanderer.’

CODOLOGY - an Irish word meaning, jocularly, ‘the science of leg-pulling.’ Cod is an Irishism for a joke or a hoax, a hoaxer is called a codologist.

More Manic Mondays

It’s 12:44 am and I’m trying to figure out how to get all my chores done, so my Sunday will be totally free.

There’s already a pile of stuff in the corner waiting to be thrown out.

My grandmother has been on my mind all evening.  I was in a store and there was a man from Italy talking to the person at the counter.  His very Italiano accent reminded me of her.  She had quite a bit of an accent herself.

My laptop is over three years old, and it’s still in excellent condition.  This doesn’t stop me from wanting a brand new one.  There is absolutely no way I can justify the expense - yet ;)

The very short piece of fiction I posted on my creative writing blog this week needs revision.  It’s actually based on a real life experience I hd a couple years back.  I’ve printed out a double spaced copy, and will work on it on the subway & bus tomorrow morning.

My blogbuddy is working on the logo for my next blog.  I can’t wait to see what she comes up with.

I’m getting sleepy.  Golden Girls is on.  I love Bea Arthur.  She just tossed a saleman out of the house - no one slams a door like Bea.  It reminds me of when she played Maude on the TV series of the same name.  I can still hear her say, “God will get you for that Walter.”

I found a bag of Star Wars action figures I bought at a Midnight Sale back in ‘99.  The long awaited fourth movie was coming out - The Phantom Menace - and everyone had Star Wars fever.  A friend and I were walking around Union Square when we saw that Toys-R-Us was all lit up and there was a huge line.  For fun we got on the line and bought a few figures.  I foudn them last night in the original bag.  Think I’ll put them on ebay and see what happens.

Well, time for me to go to bed.

You all take care.

If your personality had to be summed up as a sandwich, what kind of sandwich would you be?

I would be a panini with simple ingredients but a piquant sauce!

If you knew that someone was dying, but they didn’t know, would you tell them the truth or deceive them about it?

That’s a hard call.  I think I would go with deceiving them for as long as possible.

Do you dress the same when you are depressed as you do when you are very happy?

Actually I do everything I can to perk myself up, including getting a haircut, manicure and buying a new outfit.

I believe in wearing my brightest colors on a rainy day.
